He was a retired ironworker for Local 70, former co-owner of Custom Welding Ornamental Iron Inc., and a Navy veteran of WWII.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife Mary "Billie" Brumitt Basham and a daughter, Sherryl McCubbins. He is survived by a daughter, Susan Delaney; sons James R. Basham, Jr. and Dennis Basham; brothers Billy and Bobby Basham; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 13great-great-grandchildren; and his dear friend, Alberta “Berdi” Long.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Hwy., followed by burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will be Friday from 1-8 pm.
