It is with the deepest sorrow that we share the sudden passing of Janice Lea Richardson, 66, on August 22, 2026. She leaves behind a family who loved her beyond measure and a lifetime of people who were better for having known her.
Jan cared about people. Truly cared. She never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel seen and remembered. She noticed the little things, remembered what was happening in your life, and took the time to check in, no matter how much time had passed.
She spent much of her working life in the medical field, where she was often the friendly voice on the phone or the warm smile behind the counter or desk. Caring for people was simply part of who she was. If you were important to one of her children or grandchildren, you became important to Jan, too.
Jan was also an incredible friend and loved a good phone call. Those in her inner phone circle knew that a quick call could easily turn into hours of conversation about everything and nothing. Those long conversations kept her connected to the people she loved and will be deeply missed by those who were on the other end of the phone.
Jan had an incredible green thumb. Her flowers were beautiful, and she proudly tended to some of the biggest, fullest ferns you'd ever seen. She found joy in nurturing and watching things thrive under her care. It suited her. Jan spent her life tending to the things she loved.
Above everything else was her family. They were Jan's entire reason for being. She was absolutely devoted to her husband, her beloved sons, and her grandchildren, loving each of them with her whole heart. She was the matriarch, the worrier, the caretaker, and the glue. She loved with her whole heart and would do absolutely anything within her power for the people she loved.
And then there was Jan’s sass, legendary among those who knew her best. It was unmistakably Jan, part of the spirit and strength she carried everywhere she went. Her fierceness and her tenderness were two sides of the same woman. She loved hard, protected hard, and made sure the people in her life knew they mattered.
The space Jan leaves behind is enormous because the place she occupied in so many lives was enormous. She will be deeply missed for her fierce love, her caring heart, her unmistakable sass, and the countless little ways she made people feel seen, remembered, and loved.
She is survived by her husband, Jeff Richardson; her sons, Chris Cook (Ashley) and Tony Cook (Kendra); her daughter, Emily Richardson; her son, George Richardson; and her grandchildren, Jillian Cook, Hannah Cook, Kenlee Ann Engle, Sam Engle, and Tucker Daniel Cook. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Coleton Cook; her father, Daniel Rodgers; her mother, Louise Rodgers; her sister, Judy Rodgers; and her brothers, Ronnie Rodgers and Dan Rodgers.
