His passing felt unexpected because although John had experienced serious health issues in recent years, he always overcame them.
John was born in Chicago on November 23, 1959, to George and Frances (Curth) Green. John grew up in Chicago, Illinois and although he lived in Louisville for decades, he remained an avid Chicago sports fan. He sported a Bulls bumper sticker on his Jeep and you could always find John watching the Bears game. John was proud of his mechanic career at some of the United State’s premier roller coaster destinations including Kentucky Kingdom, Bush Gardens, and Six Flags. Those work friendships and memories meant so much to him. John was very reliable and could always be counted on, whether for a sarcastic joke or a steady hand in hard times. He loved growing vegetables and flowers in his garden and bird watching.
John was an eternally grateful recipient of two kidney transplants and an advocate for organ donation. He was patient and humble as he waited for each kidney.
John will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
He is survived by his siblings; sisters, Barbara Huyett and Diane Rose; brothers, George, Joe, and Tom Green; in addition to his chosen family, Josh and Layla Hummel; and countless nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the National Kidney Foundation (kidney.org) or signing up to be an organ donor (donatelife.net).
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, February 14th at 12:00 p.m. at the Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home - Okolona Chapel. Memorial Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the Hour of Service at 12:00 p.m. also at the Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home - Okolona Chapel.
