Joseph “Joe” Martin Slack passed away with his wife by his side on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the age of 62. Joe lived his life with a passionate heart, and anyone who knew him saw the joy he found in his art. He was incredibly talented, his drawings touched the lives of many people, yet he carried his talents and gifts with quiet humility.
Joe served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was also an honorary member of Ohio Valley Wrestling and the Iron Viking Motorcycle Club, both meant a great deal to him.
When he wasn’t drawing, Joe could usually be found with his family. He adored spending time with his grandchildren, enjoyed watching Westerns, and was a devoted Cincinnati Bengals fan who cheered just as hard for the Cincinnati Reds. Joe was a strong and resilient man, and his survival of stage 4 throat cancer was proof of just how strong he was.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruthell Slack; his brother, Jimmy Slack; his granddaughters, Aubree Shields and Kaya Catron; and his mother-in-law, Doris Buerkle.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 31 years, Tammy Slack; his children, David (Jessica) Slack, Heather (Chris L.) Catron, Justin (Brianna) Shields, and Jessica (Chris) Potts; and his grandchildren—Kink, Walter, Paisley, CJ, Chloe, and Kiara. He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca Carnell; his brother, David (Gina) Slack; his sister-in-law MaryAnn (Ken); and several nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
Joe left pieces of himself in every drawing he created. We invite friends and family to take a moment to look around and see the artwork he leaves behind. His creativity, his spirit, and his love live on through his art and in each of our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations toward funeral costs, which may be made by calling Advantage Funeral Home or through the fundraiser created to help cover Joe’s funeral expenses.
