Kenny graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1963 and attended Bellarmine College where he graduated with a degree in Sociology in 1968. Upon graduation he became a Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service where his duties included the protection of the President, Vice President, and Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates. He then became an Executive with Winmar Company where he was the Vice President and CSM Manager of The Citizens Plaza and Oxmoor Center. He later became Senior Vice President of General Growth Properties and managed Oxmoor Center and The Mall St. Matthews.
Kenny was on the Board of Directors for the Kentucky Derby Festival and Crime Stoppers, Inc. He was also the Chairman of Cocktail and Dinner Party for Foster Brooks Pro-Celebrity Golf Tournament. Kenny was a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, Building Owners and Managers Association, and the St. Matthews-East Jefferson County Business Association.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Kenneth C. Young Sr. and Jane Walton Young.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Lauren Habeeb Young; 3 children, Lisa Byerly (Scott), K.C. Young III (Aarika), and Betsy Cowan (Fiance, Ron Ferch); 5 grandchildren, Clay, Cole, Jordan, Reese, and Catey; Step-mother, Julia B. Young; Sister, Melanie Siebert (Mark); brothers and sisters in law, Sherron Gambert (Jim), Margie Karem, Richard Habeeb (Carol), Steve Habeeb (Susan), Joe Habeeb (Patty), Cathy Habeeb (Tracy), and Mark Habeeb (Valerie); a host of nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog Moe.
Visitation will be held at the Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home on Westport Road, 7410 Westport Road, on Sunday 8/26 from 1-8 PM. A service in honor of Kenny will be held on Monday at 11 AM at the funeral home with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
“Big Kenny” was loved and respected by all that knew him, and he will be missed dearly.
