July 11, 1945April 18, 2021

Michael John Riley, age 75, passed away peacefully at his home on April 18 with his wife and nephew by his side, following a long battle with cancer. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky and attended Flaget High School. He joined the Louisville Fire Department at the age of 17, following in his father's footsteps. Retiring as a Captain, he relocated to Burlington, Vermont, where he continued to serve in the Burlington Fire Department. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Catherine Riley and his maternal grandmother, Mawmaw Kline. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Vicky, and six siblings: James Riley, Jean Sturdiant, Jan Canada, Stephen Riley, Tom Riley, and Sean Riley. He was blessed to know the company of remarkable friends, including Hugh Boone, Louis Gayhafer, Jim Morrow, and the folks from the roundtable. He was a man of great faith, with a taste for adventure, and a devoted grandson, son, husband, uncle, and friend. No funeral service will be held, and Michael's ashes will be returned to his ancestral homeland of Ireland as soon as circumstances permit, in keeping with his final wishes. At a later date, his family and friends will meet Michael at the Corner.

Rest in eternal peace Michael...I worked with you at LFD and a more pleasant human being and colleague one is hard pressed to find. Condolences to family and friends on the loss of Michael's companionship but we all realize Michael is in a better place.

Mike and Hugh Boone were on Truck 3s hook and ladder as sgts, at that same time I was sgt. on Eng,15 who were housed together at that time. Try as you might it was hard to outwork those two, fun to be around anytime and they took great pride in doing their job. Prayers for their reunion in the great beyond, many memories flood back to that time with much gratitude. Peace to the family and may the coming days center around the gift of knowing they live on in the hearts of many. Rest in Peace Brother, Billy Cooper

My Uncle Mike was such a strong man, and he was my Godfather. I cherish the good memories of him. I looked up to him because he was so strong and I wanted to be as strong a person as he. He embraced Sandy who loved him very much as well. He and Vicky always remembered my Birthday, the Holidays, and that meant so much! I even remember him being there at my small gathering for my 13th Birthday party. He was the happiest when he met and married Vicky. You will be missed but we will see you again, my Uncle Mike. We love you!
