Obadiah “Obie” Henry Booker, Sr. unexpectedly passed away on December 28, 2022 in Louisville, KY. He was born on 11/13/1957 to Rev. Cornelius Booker, Sr. and Elsie Mae Clark-Booker. He is survived by his 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, his many siblings, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Obie loved life and showed it by being the life of any party. If it wasn’t a party, he made it a party! He never met a stranger and held his friendships dearly. Obie loved his family more than anything and was always there for us when we needed him. Family was the most important thing to Obie. There was never a time that you couldn’t call on him, and he wouldn’t be there to help or lend a helping hand.
Obie had a passion for music – it was a part of him. He loved to dance and could always be found playing his favorite old school tunes. Obie loved sports- the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Louisville Cardinals, especially. He regularly wore their colors proudly!
It wasn’t all fun times, and laughter with Obie. He worked hard for his family and took pride in his career too. Obie proudly served his country in the United States Army. Soon after his service, he moved to California to build commercial aircraft wings for McDonnell Douglas/ Boeing. After he retired from Boeing, he moved back to Louisville, KY to be closer to family, and friends.
There’s so much to say about Obie, it could never fit into a few paragraphs. So, we will end here from his own voicemail greeting:
“This is OBIE BOOKER. I’m out and about. I’m running and I’m jumping. I’m having all kinds of fun. I’m also taking care of all my needs. So, please leave your name and your telephone number, and I shall return your call as soon as possible. THANK YOU!”
Please join us in celebrating Obie’s life on Friday January 6, 2023 at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, Hardy Chapel, located at 10907 Dixie Highway. The viewing will begin at 4:00 pm, followed by a small gathering for refreshments. The family requests those attending to consider wearing Steelers or Cardinals gear or colors.
