Regina Maria Showalters

Regina was born in Germany and attended Catholic school before beginning a career as a technician in a medical office. Her career was interrupted by World War II, an experience that remained an important part of her life story. She often shared vivid memories of her childhood in Germany during the war and took great pride in sharing her German heritage and traditions with those around her.

Regina married the love of her life, Arthur J. Showalters Jr., on June 26, 1953, in Wasserburg am Inn, Germany. They shared 42 years of marriage before Arthur's passing in February 1996. During their life together, they were stationed in Germany, Italy, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Maryland. Regina became a naturalized United States citizen in June 1958. She spoke at least five languages and had a lifelong love of travel and experiencing different places and cultures.

Later in life, Regina worked at Fort Knox in the mess hall, where her resourcefulness and ability to make the best of what she had were well known. She was a woman who could accomplish much with very little and was always willing to share her knowledge and talents with others. One of Regina’s greatest joys in life was becoming a mother to her only child, Regina V. Turner (Showalters). Their relationship later in life included many shared cups of coffee and daily phone calls.

Regina was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and the St. Peter's Friendship Club, the St. Lawrence Senior Club, the German-American Club, and the Women's Auxiliary of the VFW. She enjoyed sewing, cooking—especially preparing Sunday dinners and holiday meals for her family—playing cards, particularly Rummy, and spending time with her many friends.

Above all, Regina treasured her family, her friendships, and her German heritage. She loved telling stories about her childhood in Germany, teaching others how to prepare traditional German dishes so that no one would ever go without German pancakes or dumplings, and teaching her great-grandchildren to speak German. Her stories, recipes, humor, and traditions became treasured memories that will continue to be passed down through the generations.

Regina was preceded in death by her parents, Josef and Veronika; her sister, Zilla Hermann, who passed away in May 2014; her beloved husband, Arthur J. Showalters Jr., in February 1996; her only daughter, Regina V. Turner, in April 2025; and her grandson, Bobby J. Williams, in December 2025.

Regina will be lovingly remembered by by her three grandchildren: Arthur Williams (Brittany Makin), Molly (Benjamin) King, Robert "Robbie" Turner; eight great -grandchildren: Catrina (Scott) Prosser, Cody Williams, Alexis Williams, Casey Williams, Tyler Williams, Jaelyn Williams, Connor King, and Riley King, and one nephew and niece. Regina is also survived by her dear friends Janna Greene, Donna Alcorn, Bob and Susan Schultz.

Regina's long and remarkable life was defined by resilience, family, friendship, faith, and an enduring love for her German roots. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, date is pending.
