Vernell was born June 17, 1929 in Butler County, Kentucky to the late Guin and Vadie Beasley.
She was preceded in rest by her husband, Melvin B Mabrey, grandson, Scott Adams, her brother, James and sister, Rena.
Survivors include her children Linda D Schlachter (Art), Larry M Mabrey (Linda), and Dale A Mabrey; grandchildren Laurie Freeman (Billy), Heather Foley (Shane), Sam Adams (Cindy), Christi Adams, Landon Mabrey (Sarah), Jaylee Powers, and special grand dog Oakley; great-grandchildren Jaylee, Zeke, Mason, Miles, Kyle, Kayla, Hunter, and Stella; and great-great-grandchildren Vivian and Clark.
The greatest joy in her life was her family. From the yearly Florida vacations she shared with them to all the family dinners she hosted at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. She truly loved her family.
Those who knew Vernell will remember that for 40 years she was known as Team Mother to the PRP Boys Basketball team. She attended all their games cheering them on whether they were in Kentucky or out of state. She took care of and loved those boys like her own. She enjoyed cooking for them, washing their uniforms, and nursing them back to health when they were under the weather.
Though she will be greatly missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that the love she shared will live on for generations.
Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm Wednesday August 5 at Advantage Funeral Home - Heady Dixie, 7710 Dixie Hwy followed by burial at Bethany Cemetery at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Tuesday August 4.
