

He was born on May 2, 1934, in Louisville, Kentucky. Ray was the son of the late Theodore and Ruby Franke. Ray proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. Following his military service, he worked as an ironworker and was a proud and dedicated member of Iron Workers Local #70.
A man of deep faith and commitment, Ray was an active member of Cloverleaf Baptist Church, where he formed lasting friendships and contributed to his church anytime they needed help. He also found great joy in traveling, always seeking new places and experiences, and was considered a classic car enthusiast.
Ray cherished his family above all. He was a devoted grandfather who took special care to give his love and attention equally to each of his grandchildren. His warmth, wisdom, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Betty Franke; his son, Willard "Ray" Franke Jr.; and his siblings, Robert, James, Laura, and Johnny.
He is survived by his sons, Timothy (Tina) Franke and Robert Franke; his grandchildren, Stephanie Fluhr, Timothy Scott (Andie) Franke, Ryan Franke (T), and Katie Franke (Christian); and seven great-grandchildren, who will continue to carry on his legacy of love and strength.
Ray’s life was a testament to service, dedication, and family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A visitation will be held for Ray on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 2-8 PM AT Advantage Funeral Home located at 10907 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky 40272. A funeral will occur on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 10:30 AM followed by a burial at Bethany Memorial Cemetery.
