Bill was a graduate of Ahrens High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a dedicated worker throughout his life, first with Kroger and later with Louisville Gas and Electric, where he retired after 35 years of service. He was a proud Scoutmaster and man of God, a member of Valley View Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Rebecca "Sue" Hornback Poynter; his children , Jimmy Poynter (Krista), Doug Poynter (Jamie), Jennifer Poynter; and his grandchildren, Caleb, Evie, Eli and Evan; He is also survived by 2 sisters, Betty Poynter and Roberta Pitts. He leaves behind his beloved dogs, Molly and Sadie.
Bill lived a life that was full of love , loyalty, opinions, and stories that his family will keep telling for years.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 beginning at 10:00 am until the time of the service at Advantage Heady Dixie Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Hwy. Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be immediately following at Bethany Cemetery with Navy Honors.
