Aberdene Elizabeth Clark Jones

Aberdene Elizabeth Jones, 88, of Huntington, was born on July 18, 1923 in Bronson, Texas in San Augustine County to the late Alma Sturrock and William Clark. She went to meet her Lord on Thursday, May 10, 2012.

Aberdene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is best known by all her family and friends as “Granny” Jones. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking, bird watching and most of all, spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Shelia White and husband Wesley of Jacksonville, Phyllis Rollins and husband Will of Nacogdoches, Laurie Johnson and husband J.B. of Huntington, and Theresa Ivey of Grapeland; sons, Gary Jones and wife Belinda of Nacogdoches and Keith Jones of Austin; grandchildren, Jeff White and wife Stacie of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Matthew White and wife Brittany of Deer Park, Brent Rollins and wife Desiree of Nacogdoches, Tara Rollins of Nacogdoches, Deidra (Johnson) Napier and husband Eric of Huntington, Misty Maturano of North Dakota, Callie (Jones) Rapsilver and husband Harold of Nacogdoches, Anne (Jones) Meyers and husband Cliff of Nacogdoches; great-grandchildren, Lane, Hannah, and Elissa White of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Landon Rollins of Nacogdoches, Nathaniel, Rebecca and Grady Rollins of Nacogdoches, Malaurie Napier of Huntington, Hadleigh White of Deer Park, and Christian Maturano of North Dakota.

Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, John Richard Jones; daughter Rhonda Cortines; parents, and brother, Elvie Clark.

The family would like to extend loving gratitude to longtime caregiver and special friend Marilyn Traweek for the many years she spent caring for our mother. We also extend our appreciation to all the employees at Huntington Health Care and Rehabilitation and to the ICU and 5th floor nurses at Memorial Hospital.

Pallbearers will be Ed Traweek, Sam Johnson, Harold Rapsilver, John Napier, Claude Williams, and Steve Ellington.

Services for Mrs. Jones will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Bobby Russell officiating. Eulogy to be delivered by son-in-law Wesley White and special words to be given by Deidra Napier on behalf of all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment will follow in the Sims/Rocky Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening, May 14th at Gipson Funeral Home.
