Alma Sturrock Nowlin Jones was born June 22, 1923, in Colmesneil, Texas, the oldest daughter of Thomas and Samantha (Sargent) Sturrock. She passed away on February 3, 2025, to be with her Lord and Savior.
Alma graduated from Colmesneil High School in 1942 and worked at the local drug store before coming to Lufkin to attend Pineywoods Business College. She worked at several businesses, including Atkinson Candy Company, Perry Brothers Accounting Department, Morgan & Lindsey Accounting Department, and Texas Electric Co-Op, as well as BJ Truck & Trailer in both Beaumont and Nacogdoches.
She was a member of Lifepoint Church (formerly Calvary Baptist) and the Rebekah Sunday School Class. She loved playing dominoes, working crossword puzzles, watching TV, playing the piano, and baking (especially chocolate pies).
Survivors include her daughter, Debra Andrus of Winnie, TX, and son-in-law Kevin Balsness of Abilene, TX. She also leaves 2 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, 8 great-granddaughters, and 8 great-grandsons, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Randy Nowlin, husband Bob Jones, daughter Rebecca Balsness, son-in-law Lastie "Bubba" Andrus, as well as her sister Estel McCarty and brothers Ray, Theron, Bower, Britton, Craig, Glenn, Aden, and Jim Sturrock.
Pallbearers will be Chad Andrus, Brandon Andrus, Casey Balsness, Kevin Balsness, Garry Ray, and Lynn Sturrock. Serving as an honorary pallbearer is Cade Andrus.
