Benjamin Martinez Soto Sr.

Services for Benjamin Martinez Soto, Sr., 80, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2022 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Cesilo Venegas officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Martinez was born May 31, 1942 in Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico, the son of the late Josefa (Soto) and Enrique Martinez. He passed away Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Hospice in the Pines.

Mr. Martinez was retired from Champion International following 40 years of service. He was a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved being with his family, being outdoors and enjoying his gardens. He loved wearing western attire. He loved Christmas, which was his favorite time of the year. His favorite dish was “Pappas Con Chille”.

Survivors include his sons, Benjamin Martinez, Jr. and wife Angelett and Enrique Martinez and wife Destiny M.; daughters, Herlinda Woods and husband Paul, Elizabeth M. Brigance and husband Keith, and Aniseta Larsen and husband Wilhelm; grandchildren, Angela Maria Martinez, Paul Henry Woods, Jr., Ashley Ann Martinez, Romero C. Woods, Aryana Denise Martinez, Benjamin Martinez, III, Alexander Martinez, JaMarius Antonio Woods, Daniel Martinez, Zal’Leya Yasmin Woods, Kayla Shenise Brigance, Jorden Martinez, Karyssa Teresa Brigance, Wilhelm A. Larsen, Adriano J. Larsen, Jeremiah M. Larsen, Ashlyn Sylestine, Grayson Sylestine, and Arabella M. Martinez; great-grandchildren, Adrian Flores, Alexis Martinez, Annalicia Reyes, Penelope Martinez, King Woods, Remington Martinez, Ares Woods, Sophia Woods and Camille Woods; and sisters, Enriqueta Martinez Soto and Irma Martinez Soto.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Teresa Martinez on March 15, 2010; parents; and brother, Mario Martinez.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
