Betty Lou Belasco

Betty was born January 24, 1937, in Brazil, Indiana, to Cecil and Gertrude (Mong) Maurer. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 7, 2026.

Raised on a farm in rural Indiana, Betty was the oldest of five. After graduating high school, she moved to Florida to live with her grandmother. It was there she met the love of her life, Robert. They married four months after meeting, and they celebrated their 70th anniversary on March 11, 2026.

Two of their children were born in Florida. In the early 1960s, they moved to Greencastle, Indiana, to be closer to her family and their third child was born.

In the 1970s, they moved to Leander, Texas, to be closer to Robert’s parents, and when they moved to Lufkin, she worked for the Angelina County Tax Office before taking a job with a locally owned mobile home dealership where she provided the financing work.

She would eventually become the majority owner of the dealership.

A strong, independent woman, our mom always did what was needed for her family. No matter the job–at home or work– she put in more than 100%, and she taught her family a strong work ethic. She pushed her children and grandchildren to choose a career, not just a job.

Betty and Robert loved to dance together, whether it was the jitterbug or two-stepping. After she retired, she enjoyed traveling to visit her family in Indiana and visiting Branson, but mostly she enjoyed spending time at home, in her flower beds; much of which ended as her eyesight began to fail.

Survivors include her loving husband of 70 years, Robert; her children: Jeff Belasco and wife, Susan of Lufkin; Sherri Myers and partner Jaime Cruz of Belton; and Jackie Zimmerman and husband Mike of Lufkin; grandchildren: Robert Ivy and wife Gabriella of Pearland; Jarrett Pickens and wife Jordan of Wimberly; Maddie Zimmerman of Baltimore, MD.; Sam Belasco, Jordan Bowers and husband Casey, Sheridan Fuller and husband Chase, all of Lufkin; Colt Myers and wife Brittney of Royse City; sisters: Edna Ann Maybaugh of Greencastle, Ind., and Judy Muenster of Plainfield, Ind.; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Larry Earl Maurer and Terry Wayne Maurer.

Visitation will be at 3 p.m. with the funeral service at 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerod Yancy.

In lieu of flowers, our family requests donations be made to Hospice in the Pines. Contributions can be sent to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Street, Lufkin, Texas, 75904.

Our family is deeply grateful for the care provided to our mother by Hospice in the Pines care team. There really are no words to express the level of gentle care and love they gave her and our family through this difficult time.

Their dedication to this labor of love, which is by far one of the most difficult careers, is unmatched.
