Betty passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, February 26, 2018. She was born February 3, 1928 in Lufkin, Texas, to Henry Warden Ragland and Mary Lorena Odell Lockart.
Born and raised in Lufkin, she met the love of her life, Big Robert. She sold popcorn at the Pines Theater and he was a projectionist. Big Robert returned home from the Korean War, they married, had two children and started a new life in Houston. Upon retirement, they moved back to Lufkin and spent their time working on the house and yard they both loved so much. Betty volunteered a lot of her time to Memorial Hospital, Museum of East Texas and Friends of the Library. Betty loved to read and garden. She was a great cook and gracious host, her home always a welcome respite for family and friends.
Betty is survived by her sons, Robert Earl Reeves, Jr. of Houston and Mark O’Dell Reeves of Lufkin; one grandson, Keith O’Dell Reeves; daughter-in-law, Leslie Reeves of Houston; sisters-in-law, Peggy Barclay Ragland, Charlene Cortines, Garthie Ann Donnelly and Carolyn Reeves; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Mary Kathryn Gompper, Michael Flynn Ragland, Syll Holt, Robert (Max) Lockart and Ronnie Woods.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, (Big) Robert Earl Reeves; sister, Mary Louise Lockart Russell; and brothers, Frank Odell Ragland and Warden (Bubba) Lockart.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to her favorite charities, Winnie Berry Humane Society of Lufkin, 1102 N. John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, TX 75904; or Kurth Memorial Library, 706 S. Raguet, Lufkin, TX 75901.
