

Mrs. George was born July 13, 1937 in Lexington, Lee County, Texas, the daughter of the late Dorothy (Robins) and Ray G. Thornton. She passed away on April 18, 2015 in a local hospital.
She was employed by Nations Bank as a receptionist for twenty years. She was known as “Meme George” or “N’other Granny”. Her passion was her grandbabies, which turned to her great-grandbabies. Mrs. George was a phenomenal cook and her afternoon “coffee time” was her favorite part of her day. She also enjoyed swimming and her lily and rose garden. Mrs. George was a member of Burke Baptist Church, past member of the Burke Chapter # 1095 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and current member of the Lufkin Chapter #382 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was very dedicated to her Eastern Star Chapter, her family and her obligations.
Survivors include her daughter, Billie Ann Kilgore of Diboll; son and daughter-in-law, Vernie Allen Hatthorn and Cindy of Bandera; son, Bryan Keith Hatthorn and special friend, *Tesa” Wind of Diboll; eight grandchildren, Patrick, Alicia, Tasha, Brandon, Ryan, Nick, Heather and Aleaha; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Velma Irene Pace of Austin, Bobbie Lee Schulze of Giddings and Betty West of San Antonio; two special friends, Rosemary Swetland-Berry and Wilma Rector; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Bruce George; son, Gary L. Hatthorn in 1994; son-in-law, William “Billy” Kilgore, Jr.; brother, Lawrence Thornton; brother, Gene Thornton; and granddaughter, Athea Millage Hatthorn.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Kilgore, Ryan Hatthorn, Brandon Stringer, Nick Hatthorn, Bo Smith and David Seymore.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
