Billy Gene Edwards

Services for Billy Gene Edwards, 78, of Conroe, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Phil Meadows officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.

Mr. Edwards was born August 6, 1935 in Angelina County, Texas, the son of the late Elizabeth Mae (Hopson) and Melvin Haywood Edwards. He passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at his residence.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a retired truck driver for Merchant Motor Lines. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dirt car racing, boxing, and playing darts. Mr. Edwards served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Edwards of Conroe; sons, Ian Maidment of the UK, Mel Edwards of Conroe, Zack Edwards of Liverpool and Bryan Bozarth of Conroe; daughters, Jana Lea and Belinda Hackleman, both of Conroe; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way; sister, Joyce Cobb of Conroe; and numerous other family members.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Smitherman; grandson, Joshua Wayne Bozarth; and sister, Barbara Ann Edwards Hall.

Pallbearers will be Jarrad Seibert, Jake Bozarth, Taylor Ramirez, Robert Hay, Joshua Stone, David Edwards, and Devin Fitch.

Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Bozarth, Robert Tucker, and Michael Tucker.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday at Gipson Funeral Home.
