Billy E. Ratliff, a devoted father, Pawpaw, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on July 16, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on September 15, 1936, in Angelina County, Billy lived a life grounded in family, hard work, and a deep love for the outdoors.
A true son of the land, Billy found joy in the simple things—casting a line at sunrise, walking quietly through the woods on a crisp fall morning, or spending time in his shop with a project in his hands. He had a gift for fixing things, and there wasn’t much he couldn’t repair with determination.
One of his favorite places to be was in his shop, sitting back and watching the highway through the open door. He especially loved seeing the trucks go by pulling boats, imagining where they were headed and maybe wishing he was going along for the ride.
Billy was a man of strong character, steady hands, and a heart full of love. He believed in showing up, doing the right thing, and keeping his word. His stories, laughter, and the lessons he passed down will continue to echo in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Wilma R. Ratliff; sons Robert Ratliff and Kathy Henderson of Kennard, Dale Ratliff of Kennard, and David Ratliff of Lufkin; and his son-in-law, Phil Gray of Tyler. His grandchildren include Jamie Murphy and David Alsbrooks of Lufkin, Cody and Brittany Ratliff of Cleveland, and Scott Ratliff of Lufkin. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Jacob Bosquez, Claire Solly, and Piper Ratliff. Special friends Tony and Vesta Moye. Also his beloved loyal companion Sadie.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn A. Ratliff.
Visitation will be held on Saturday July 19th 9:00am at Gipson Funeral Home with services to follow at 10:00am. Private burial service for family will be at Aldredge Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Scott Ratliff, Cody Ratliff, David Ratliff, Dale Ratliff, Robert Ratliff, David Alsbrooks, Phil Gray, and Tony Moye.
