Services for Carlton Ray Pouland, 71, of Lufkin, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2018 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Van Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery in Zavalla, Texas.
Carlton was born February 10, 1947 in Jasper, Texas, the son of the late Elsie (Stringer) and Calvin Pouland. He passed away Monday, May 7, 2018 in Lufkin, Texas
Carlton was employed as an operator technician for Georgia Pacific in Lufkin, Texas for 37 years. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of the Homer Masonic Lodge #254. Carlton liked bow hunting and especially enjoyed fishing the local lakes with his father. He embraced most of his hobbies with an obsessive enthusiasm, especially organizing his vast music collection. Most importantly, Carlton was a kind-hearted man who never spoke poorly of anyone and was the first to lend a helping hand to someone in need. It was rare to see Carlton without smile and a loud laugh, or a time when he wouldn’t welcome you into his home. He never met a stranger, and if he did, they wouldn’t be a stranger for long. Carlton loved his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, and they loved him just as much. He never called them by their names, but rather the nicknames that he felt were befitting.
