Services for Charles Campbell, 84, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Andrew G. Pittman officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Campbell was born November 4, 1929 in Lufkin, the son of the late Lena (Largent) and Melton Campbell, and passed away April 25, 2014 in a Nacogdoches Medical Center.
Charles served with the United States Army for a short time and then returned to Lufkin to work. He was known as the best tool grinder in the machine shop at Lufkin Industries and he retired after 35 years. He also retired after serving 21 years as a Lufkin Volunteer Fireman. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lufkin. Mr. Campbell’s favorite pastime was building birdhouses. He had 150 of them in his yard. He also enjoyed radio-controlled airplanes and was a member of the Lufkin Area R-C Modelers. He was a jokester and had a joke for everything. He drove a 1959 Chevrolet and he wouldn’t sell it.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Nancy Campbell of Lufkin; sister, LaNell Greene and Major of Lufkin; niece; Deidre Oates and Pat of Lufkin; nephews, Taylor Greene and Amy of Cypress, Casey Adams and Matt of Oceanside, CA; Clark Oates of Lufkin; Jackson Greene of Cypress; Ross Greene of Cypress; cousins: Carolyn Guidry and John of Lufkin, C. W. Fenner and Joy of Garland; best friends, James Dennis “Blue” Thompson, Clifford Lowery and Curtis Messer.
Pallbearers will be James “Blue” Thompson, Pat Oates, Clark Oates, Taylor Greene and Curtis Messer.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
Flowers or memorial gifts to a favorite charity are acceptable.
