Dorothy Elaine (Emsoff) Stewart of Diboll was born January 22, 1948, on a cold, snowy day in Camden, Texas to William Fritz and Delia Mae (Bryant) Emsoff. She was the light of her parents' lives. She passed away August 1, 2025, in The Woodlands, Texas surrounded by her family.
Dorothy, who was known affectionately as "Dottie", married the love of her life Joe Lynn Stewart on March 6, 1965. She was a 1966 graduate of Corrigan-Camden High School and was of the Baptist faith.
Joe Lynn and Dottie spent time living in Long Beach, California and Meridian, Mississippi while Joe Lynn served in the U.S. Navy before settling in Diboll to raise their family. They went on to have two sons, Scott and Daryl, and their only daughter Amanda.
Dottie retired from New Caney I.S.D. and previously worked for Diboll I.S.D. and Diboll State Bank. However, her favorite job in life was being a loving wife and mother and later welcoming numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly called her Mammaw or "Mam" for short. Just last year, she was promoted to being a great-great-grandma which was a title she took very seriously.
Throughout the years, Dottie loved to travel and her favorite destinations usually had casinos. She was also able to check off one of her bucket-list trips when she, Amanda, and her grandson Julian took an Alaskan cruise. She smiled from ear to ear the entire trip.
In her spare time, Dottie loved watching "her shows" which included anything on The Hallmark Channel and "Alaska shows" as she called them. She also enjoyed looking at all of her plants and flowers, listening to her wind chimes, and watching for squirrels and hummingbirds from their front porch.
Dottie loved her family fiercely. She was an only child, and she lovingly took care of her parents until they passed. She was the best Momma and Mammaw that anyone could ask for. She had the biggest heart and there's nothing she wouldn't do to help those she loved. Simply put, to know her was to love her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers-in-law Elvin Stewart and Eber Stewart, and sisters-in-law Shirley Wright, Sue Stewart, and Billie Stewart.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 60 years Joe Lynn Stewart of Diboll, her daughter Amanda Jo Jackson and husband Julian Sr. of Porter, her son William Scott Stewart and wife Adrianne of Diboll, and Daryl Lynn Stewart and wife Leigh of Broaddus. Also, her grandchildren Korye Stewart, Felicia Amador and wife Josie, Jordan Jackson, Julian Jackson, Jr., Hannah McClelland and husband Ryan, Ryleigh Oates and husband Colby, Kolby Stewart, Emma Stewart, Taelor Bridwell and husband Caleb, and Mason Miller. Her great-grandchildren Hunter Stewart, Kadence Stewart, Gentry Stewart, Gunner Rebbe, Saylor Frazier, and Rylan McClelland. Great-great grandson, Walker Stewart. At the time of her death, she was anxiously awaiting the birth of her newest great-granddaughter Blaire Avery Oates. She was also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who she loved as family.
Pallbearers will be Colby Oates, Caleb Bridwell, Sam Baker, Lance Hall, Jonathan Walsh, and David Wilson.
The family would like to thank Dr. Karl Krohn for his many years of dedicated care as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff at Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands for the excellent care provided to Dottie in her final days.
The family invites all of Dottie's friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating her life. The family also requests that anyone attending the service wear the color blue as that was Dottie's favorite color.
Our hearts are broken, but we know that Dottie will rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father until we meet again.
