Dorothy Louise Wood

Dorothy Louise (Davis) Wood, 85, of Lufkin, was born February 13, 1926 in Angelina County, Texas, the daughter of the late Nancy Anna (Jones) and William Jessie Davis. She passed away Friday, December 23, 2011 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Wood was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family. Her grandchldren and great-grandchildren were the delight of her life. Quilt making was her specialty and she made sure that "everybody" had one of her quilts.She was a former member of Oak Grove Assembly of God and a current member of the Victory Assembly of God.

Survivors include her twins, Merle McAdams and husband Raymond of Lufkin and Lonnie Earl Wood and wife Pat of Lufkin; sons, Tommy Ray Wood Sr. and Jerry G. Wood and wife Nancy, all of Lufkin; sister, Loretta Bridges and husband Hubert of Huntington; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Wood in 2008; daughter-in-law, Linda B. Wood; brother, Valton Davis; and sisters, Leona Hernandez, Helen Kessler, and Lucille Honeycutt.

Pallbearers will be Jarrod Wood, Joe Wood, Andrew Corbett, Micah Corbett, William Wooten, Ewain McAdams, Tommy Ray Wood, Jr. and Tristin Wood.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ennis Tomez, Garland Baker, kenneth Dry, Glendal "Rabbit" Griffin and Clint Youngblood.

Services for Mrs. Wood will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, December 28, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend James W. Mills officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday in the Old Salem Cemetery i n Shelby County.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.

Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
