Dred Jackson "Jack" Devereaux, 97, of Diboll, was born March 3, 1915 in Diboll, Texas, the son of the late Annie (Jackson) and Dred Dorford Devereaux. He passed away Friday, August 24, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Devereaux retired from Southwest Forest Industries in Arizona. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved all sports, including baseball and bowling, but golf was his passion, which he enjoyed playing every day, including the day he passed away. Mr. Devereaux was a member of First United Methodist Church of Diboll. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II on an LST in the South Pacific.
Survivors include his wife, Mozelle Devereaux of Diboll; daughters Jacqueline (Jackie) Renfro and husband Larry of Amarillo, Paula Devereaux Kurth and husband Melvin of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Celia (Ceci) Devereaux White and husband Doc of San Diego, California; grandsons, Lance Devereaux and Chad Walker; granddaughter, J. J. Devereaux; 5 great-grandchildren; and a number of other family members.
Mr. Devereaux was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and Dred Devereaux; and sisters, Etheldred and Pauline.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Farley, Earl Hutson, Dick Miller, Charlie Havard, J. R. Williams, Larry McMinimy, and The Strauss Class of First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Devereaux's memory may be made to SPCA of Texas, 2400 Lone Star Drive, Dallas, Texas 75212.
Memorial services for Mr. Devereaux will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2012 in the First United Methodist Church in Diboll, with Reverend Becky Love and Pastor Jeff Stull officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 until service time on Friday at the church.
