

George Hulon Bentley, 81, son of the late Myrtie Opal (Caples) and Jim Townsend Bentley, was born July 17, 1930 in Angelina County, Zavalla, Texas, and passed away December 17, 2011 in a local hospice facility.
Mr. Bentley was a pulp wood contractor and long time farmer. He was a member of Harmony Hill Baptist Church for 32 years. One of his special achievements was placing first in category of squash for prettiest and size.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Katherine Vestal Bentley; children, Janice Bentley Oates (Bobby Wayne), Billy Ray Bentley, Eddie Earl (Faith) Bentley and Jennifer Bentley Holder (Jason); brothers and sisters, James Bentley, Anthony Bentley, Bobby Bentley, Edward Bentley, David Bentley, Gerald Don Bentley, Katie Thompson, Barbara Armstrong, Judy Taylor and Joyce Bentley; 8 grandchildren, Dennis and Stuart Oates, Shanda Nichols, Zach, Caleb, Christopher, Candy and Caylon Bentley; 8 great-grandchildren; special niece, Rita Kay Johnson.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Opal Smith and Jessie Myrl Thompson and brother, Kenneth Bentley.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis and Stuart Oates and Zach, Caleb, Christopher and Caylon Bentley.
Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren and Jimmy Cloonan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice In The Pines, 1504 West Frank, Lufkin, TX 75904.
Services for Mr. Bentley will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Greene officiating. Interment will follow in the Berry Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
