

Services for George Honea, 87, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Trey Ainsworth officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Honea was born August 2, 1928 in Caro, Texas, the son of the late Jennie V. (Seelbach) and R V Honea. He passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015.
Mr. Honea was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was retired from Texas South-Eastern Railroad in Diboll and was formerly employed by Southern Pacific Railroad in Lufkin. He enjoyed cooking for events with The Round Table, where he was a member for several years. He was also a “professional crow hunter”. Mr. Honea was a 67-year member of Calvary Baptist Church. He loved his Lord and his family.
Survivors include his wife of 67-years, Faye Honea of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Rhonda Honea of Shreveport, Louisiana; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jared and Janna; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Owen; nieces, Pam Taylor and Pat Anderson; nephews, Edwin Quarles and Wiley Quarles; sister-in-law, Lucille Anderson; and a number of other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Honea was preceded in death by his son, George Thomas Honea II; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Haywood Quarles.
Pallbearers will be Charles Arnold, Bob Brown, Dale Childress, Micho Hales, Marvin Slusher, and Steven Slusher.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Carter, Harry Mewbourn, John Powers, Dick McKay, and Members of the Round Table.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Honea’s memory may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 516 Montrose, Lufkin, TX 75901.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
