

Homer graduated from Central High School in 1952 and worked various jobs throughout his lifetime. He began at Hughes Tool Company in Houston, then served as Sr. Vice President of Houston Area Teacher's Credit Union for many years. After living in Houston for 23 years, he returned to Lufkin and married his high school sweetheart, Joann Bell. Later he traveled Texas, selling western wear for the Lee Company and Carhartt Outer Wear. He was the top regional sales person several times. Later he served as Tax Assessor of Angelina County. He then opened Anthony's Sandwich Shop in downtown Lufkin. He later managed the Lufkin Country Club for five years. But the job he enjoyed most was when he retired and operated his cattle ranch in Huntington for ten years and visited with his many coffee drinking friends.
Homer passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2014 surrounded by his wife, Joann Bell Denby and children, Blake Denby, Amy Denby Coker, Deborah Luna, Karen Macias, and Susan Madden. Other survivors include his grandchildren, Austin, Carling, Katherine, Jack, Emily, Chris, Brett, Elizabeth, Lindsey, Scarlett, Megan, Jayme, April, Eric, Tamesha, and Leslie Paul Denby and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his Aunt and Uncle, Hulen and Pearl McClure, and his son, Leslie Paul Denby.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
A memorial service for Homer will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2014 in the Falvey Memorial Methodist Church in Wells, with Reverend Vic Bass, Pastor Cindy Doran, and Reverend David Goodwin officiating.
