

Ignacio Hernandez Sr., lovingly known to family and friends as “Nacho” and “Mascaritas,” age 88, of Diboll, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026. He was born on February 1, 1937, and lived a life defined by faith, hard work, humility, and deep devotion to his family.
Ignacio pursued his education in Business Administration at the Academia de Comercio de Valle Hermoso in Mexico. He dedicated 31 years of loyal service to Temple-Inland, where his strong work ethic and commitment were admired by colleagues and friends alike.
A devoted Catholic, Ignacio was a faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Diboll and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. His faith was a cornerstone of his life and guided him through every season.
Known for his warm presence and quiet pride, Ignacio found joy in baseball, gardening, and keeping a spotless yard—something he was well known for. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family and never missed an opportunity to attend his grandchildren’s events, cheering them on with love and pride.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrosio Hernandez and Secundina Gutierrez; his brothers, Pablo Hernandez, Braulio Hernandez, Aurelio Hernandez, and Felipe Hernandez; and his in-laws, Mateo Guzman Portales and Porfilia Mireles Portales.
Ignacio shared 62 beautiful years of marriage with the love of his life, Aurora Hernandez, building a strong and faith-filled family together.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Aurora Hernandez; his children: Jose Hernandez (Georgina), Hector Hernandez (Martha), and Maria Buenrostro (Arnoldo), all of Diboll; Ignacio Hernandez Jr. (Leslie) of Katy; and Felipe Hernandez (Norma) of Lufkin.
He leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren: Chris Buenrostro (Natalie), Corey Hernandez (Kristy), Eric Buenrostro (Catherine), Jessica Esteves (Esteban), Sara Hernandez, Samantha Allen (Zach), Anabel Hernandez (DJ DeJesus), Elsi Hernandez, Felipe Hernandez (Alejandra), Ivan Hernandez, Christina Hernandez (fiancé Nico), Adan Hernandez, and Julian Hernandez.
His great-grandchildren—Olivia, Ava, Elijah, Khalessi, Analiyah, Kamila, Amelia, Madison, Felicity, Maggie, Joanna, Bethany, Joziah, Tristan, and Emma—were a source of immense joy and pride.
He is also survived by his sister, Guadalupe Hernandez of McAllen, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Corey Hernandez, Chris Buenrostro, Eric Buenrostro, Felipe Hernandez Jr., Ivan Hernandez, Adan Hernandez, and Julian Hernandez. Honorary pallbearers are Esteban Esteves and Zach Allen.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Hospice in the Pines and the many healthcare providers who offered compassionate care and support during Ignacio’s illness.
Visitation will be held at Gipson Funeral Home in Lufkin, Texas, on February 6, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Holy Rosary Prayer Service will take place the same evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 100 Maynard Street, Diboll, Texas, on February 7, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.
Mr. Hernandez will be laid to rest at Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
