

Services for James E. “Mott” Mott, 76, of Lufkin, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014 in the First Ora Missionary Baptist Church in Ora, Texas, with Pastor Danny Cryer officiating. Interment will follow in the Cochran Cemetery in Ora.
Mr. Mott was born August 8, 1937 in Denton, Texas. He passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in a local hospice facility.
Mr. Mott was the son of the late Helen Mott and was raised by his grandparents, Reverend Elijah Mott and Minnie Mott. He was employed as a Captain with the Lufkin Fire Department & Ambulance Service, Station #4, from 1956 to 1990, when he retired following 34 years of service. He was a member of the Lufkin Professional Fire Fighters Association #3034 as well as being a paramedic. He also worked at hanging custom drapes for Sears.
He was very outgoing, never met a stranger, was very competent at his job, and was well respected. He loved gardening and had a Texas – sized garden. Mr. Mott was a member of the First Ora Missionary Baptist Church in Ora.
Survivors include his daughter, Eureka Ann Mott of Lufkin; sisters, Maggie Wells and Glenda Montgomery, both of Shell Knob, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews, including a nephew who was very close to him, Buel and Wanda Puryear; and his dog, Missy.
In addition to his mother and grandparents, Mr. Mott was preceded in death by his wife, Sue (Cochran) Mott.
Members of the Lufkin Fire Department will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be David Cochran and Doug Holley.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at First Ora Missionary Baptist Church, with the Lufkin Fire Department posting guard during the visitation.
