Services for James Smith, 80, of Zavalla, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2018 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Ray Morgan and Steve Coker officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born May 22, 1938 in Apple Springs, Texas, the son of the late Louise (Pixley) and James Smith. He passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Smith was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a welder and fabricator by trade and was a workaholic. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching sports on TV. Mr. Smith proudly served his country in the United States Army. Survivors include his wife, Betty Harris of Zavalla; daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Rickerson Fisher of Clovis, California; daughters, Elizabeth Smith and Donna Smith, both of Northern California; sisters, Judy Coker of New Braunfels and Martha Wilson of Dallas; 7 grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members. Pallbearers will be Craig Harris, Chick Harris, Lucas Harris, Billy Averette, Tracey Hubbard, Steve Coker, and John Wylie Coker. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Smith was also survived by 7 grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise (Pixley) and James Smith.
