Mrs. Cook was born May 29, 1928 in Rusk, Texas to the late Ruby (Taylor) and H.L. Johnson, and died Monday, August 16, 2021 in a local nursing home.
As much as she loved being a mother, she loved being a grandmother more. She was lovingly referred to as “Gremo” by her grandchildren, William Cook and Sarah Cook, and son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Ashley Cook. While Mrs. Cook had resided in Lufkin for a number of years, she kept many fond memories of her younger years of life in the small community of Maydelle in Cherokee County, Texas. While in Cherokee County, she met and married Lloyd Sterling Cook, and the two remained together until his death in 1985.
Mrs. Cook was a homemaker. She enjoyed her Sunday School class, working in her yard and flower beds, cooking, reading, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Cook was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law; grandson and granddaughter; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and JC Havard; sister-in-law, Tillie Johnson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Drs. David and Donnie Yeilding; sister-in-law, Doris Stadler; a number of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
