JoAnn Dixon

Graveside services for JoAnn Dixon, 87, of Lufkin, Texas, will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Whitehouse Cemetery, with Brother Maynard Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends and guests from 5:00-7:00 PM, on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Gipson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dixon was born June 19, 1939, in Angelina County, the daughter of Sophia “Fy” Jane (Golden) and Woodie Jim Jones. She passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at The Joseph House in Lufkin. A life-long resident of East Texas, she was an independent, strong, and resilient woman (like her mother Fy Jane) who was “a force to be reckoned with”. Her strength of character and conviction was evident to all who knew her, and stemmed from her deep love for God and her fierce devotion to her family. Mrs. Dixon, along with her family, had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed camping at Sam Rayburn lake in the summers and hunting in Cherokee County in winter. Alongside her husband, Archie, son Jason, and son-in-law Roy McClendon, JoAnn served a term as the President of the Benge Hunting Club in Rusk, TX. JoAnn was an amazing cook, an avid gardener, and a very talented musician who loved to sing and play piano at her church. During the holidays, one might find her sitting at her piano in the living room, playing and singing Christmas carols. Most importantly, Mrs. Dixon was a woman of strong Christian Faith who steadfastly served the Lord. She served in area churches as pianist and Sunday school teacher throughout her entire life; as a young woman, she began playing the piano and teaching at Little Flock Baptist Church, as well as Pine Forrest Church, McKindree Baptist Church, and ending with her present church home at Macedonia, where she was still teaching and playing piano as recently as last year at the age of 86. She was a living example of a moral, honorable, loving, and Godly woman. A Rock and Strength of the Dixon family, JoAnn will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamala Ann McClendon, sons Randall Greg Dixon, Archer Bee Dixon, and Noah Dixon; daughters-in-law Christina Dixon and Michele Dixon; grandchildren, Dixie McClendon-Coker, Levi McClendon, Sara Dixon, Shelby Dixon, Casey Dixon, Matthew Dixon, Tess Scogin, and Lindsey Barthold; great-grandchildren to include Augustus Coker, Gaius Coker, Emma McClendon, Helen McClendon, Piper Dixon, Stevie Horton, Graci Havard, Naveah Hill, Kamdyn Pinner, Jacey Dixon, Opal Sandoval, Jesse Scogin, Jeremy Scogin, Kenna Scogin, and Luke Barthold; nephews Kevin and Derrick Shoffit and families; along with numerous other extended family members and friends. On her final day of life, JoAnn was surrounded by her family and friends at the Joseph House, where she left this Earth peacefully, arriving into the Gates of Heaven, where we are sure she rushed to finally reunite with her beloved sons Jason and Timothy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodie and Fy Jane Jones, husband, Archie Bee Dixon, son Timothy Dixon, son Jeremy Jason Dixon, sister Genelle Jones, sister Jimmie Lavin, and son-in-law Roy Neal McClendon.

The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to Hospice in the Pines and The Joseph House for their outstanding care during our mother’s journey home. Pallbearers include Greg Dixon, Archer Dixon, Noah Dixon, Levi McClendon, Lee Coker, and Augustus Coker
