JoAnn Herrington, 78, has gone to rest in her eternal home with our Lord at the end of February 2021. She was born on February 20, 1943 to Joshua Buchanan (Buck ) and Ivy Esther Quine Herrington.
As a young woman, JoAnn attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, TX. While there, she was active in drama and basketball as well as being the vice president of her sorority Zeta Theta Gamma. After college, JoAnn enjoyed an apprenticeship with the Alley Theater in Houston, which remained one of her most beloved experiences.
In her professional life, JoAnn was esteemed and hard working. She was employed in various cities by Brown & Root, Cameron Iron Works, and Tesoro Crude Oil before coming back to settle in Houston to be close to her ailing parents. Eventually, JoAnn began working in the legal field for Zilka Energy, The Coastal Corporation, The American Leadership Forum and El Paso Corporation. JoAnn realized her passion for this type of work and remained a legal assistant until her retirement in 2017.
Throughout her life, JoAnn served her community by being on the board of her HOA, volunteering for Special Olympics and Junior Achievement and Habitat for Humanity. She spent time as a chairman for the Towering Texans of Houston and helped organize the Miss Tall Houston Pageant.
Despite all of her career and personal accomplishments, JoAnn was most known for her love of animals. CAP (Citizens for Animal Protection) was one of her favorite organizations. JoAnn constantly kept pets throughout her life and she cared for them dearly.
