Joe D. Goins

Funeral service for Joe D. Goins, 85, of Lufkin will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Justin Goins and Rev. Steve Comstock officiating. Interment will follow at Berry Cemetery.

Mr. Goins was born September 8, 1937 in Diboll, Texas, to the late Elizabeth Anderson and Thomas J. Goins. He passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023 in his home.

Joe was a loving husband, father, and Paw Paw. He was an avid hunter and loved his guns. Joe also loved his garden and old cars. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and worked at the paper mill for 37 years.

Survivors include wife, Ruby Goins of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, David Goins and Shelia of Lufkin; daughter, Carla Herrington of Lufkin; grandson, Justin Goins and wife, Liberty of Lufkin; great-grandchildren, Elliott and Levi Goins; step-children, Donny McNaughton, Vina Atkinson, James and Vevelyn Duke; 6 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by parents; wife, LaVerne Goins; brother, Thomas J. Goins Jr.; sister, Barbara Waller; son-in-law, Ronny Herrington; step-daughter, Evangelyn McNaughton.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Heart to Heart Hospice.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home.
