Joe D. Harris

Joe D. Harris, the son of the late Mandy (Widner) and Joel Larkin Harris, was born October 5, 1928 in Sulphur Springs, Zavalla, Texas. He passed away October 20, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Harris was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed riding horses, hunting, fishing, traveling and visiting his friends. He served his country in the United States Army as an MP and earned several medals while serving.

He is survived by his wife, Neta Harris of Zavalla; son and daughter-in-law, Darrel and Kathy Harris of Kountze; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and James Garner of Beaumont; sister, Bobbie Adams of Lumberton, Texas; granddaughters, Candace Harris, Kindell Harris, Kyleigh Garner and Amanda Rice; grandson, Christopher Malone; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Grayson, Weston and Evelyn Jo; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris is preceded in death by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

Pallbearers will be Richard Runnels, Bobby Weaver, Jr., Frank Harris, Jackie Harris, Judd Adams and Jolly Adams.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
