John "Johnny" Gilcrease

Services for John “Johnny” Gilcrease, 94, of the Saron Community, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Tom Havard Cemetery.

Mr. Gilcrease was born July 10, 1923 in Old Nancy, Texas, the son of the late James Almer (Havard) and John Albert Gilcrease. He passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Gilcrease was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was retired from Lufkin ISD Maintenance. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family. Mr. Gilcrease was a member and Deacon of Saron Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Robert Conner of Woodville; daughter, Marie Stanford of Zavalla; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and other family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gilcrease was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Rosa Lee Gilcrease; sons, Jimmy Harris and Jerry Gilcrease; daughters, Mary Lou Smith and Clara Mae Harris; and 3 brothers.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
