John lived a full life, traveling to many places. He served in the United States Navy. He retired from the Navy after serving four tours in Vietnam and a tour in Korea. He loved life and whistled all of the time. He loved music and enjoyed playing the harmonica. He also whittled and loved to carve birds and he even carved walking canes. He loved the water, and loved to go fishing especially for crabs and oysters.
Survivors include his daughters, Irene (Ryan) Austin and husband Paul from Sour Lake, Texas, Diane Ryan- Nida and husband Kevin from Santa Paula, California, and Kathleen Ryan from Pollok, Texas; son, John Ryan from Rhode Island; sister, June Garganese from Rhode Island; grandchildren, Jessica, Daniel, Calvin, Melina, Ailine, Trever, Harlie, Jeri; great grandchildren, Audrey, Eliora, Benjamin, Cooper and Draven; ex-wife, Melba Shelton from Wells, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ernest Ryan; and great granddaughter, Anabella.
Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
