Johnnie Florine Nelson-Scarborough

Services for Johnnie Florine Nelson-Scarborough, 87, of Lufkin, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Schultheis officiating. Interment will be held at 12:00 p.m. noon on Monday, March 17, 2014 in Forrest Park East Cemetery in Houston.

She was born April 16, 1926 in Leesville, LA, the daughter of the late Rosa Massenia (Greer) and John F. Holton, and passed away March 13, 2014 at her residence.

Johnnie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and listening to Gospel music. She also enjoyed reading, especially her Bible. She loved her family and showed her friends all her grandchildren’s pictures. She was a member of Lufkin First Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by daughter, Rose Marie Nelson Riffe of Lufkin; son, James V. Nelson of Katy; step-daughter, Beverly Selman of Lufkin; grandsons, Johnathan L. Riffe, Jason Riffe and wife, Jessica of Houston and James Nelson, Jr. and wife, Marina of Lufkin; step-granddaughters, Shannon Henderson of Frisco, TX and Susan Deloney of Port Arthur, TX; daughter-in-law, Connie Flym of Houston; 12 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Bertha Holton of Lufkin; and sister, Margie Ballew of Houston.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Victory Nelson and Burnice Scarborough.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
