

Services for Kenneth Koon, 88, of Lufkin, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2014 in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, with Dr. Brian Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Koon was born August 19, 1926 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Lucy (Richardson) and Jack Koon. He passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 in a local hospital.
Mr. Koon was the active owner/operator of Kenneth Koon Konstruction for 44 years. He was President of El Pinion Development and Vice President/General Manager of Nacogdoches Asphalt Company. He was an outdoorsman – he loved water activities, especially water skiing and fishing. He also enjoyed hunting and camping with family members. He enjoyed watching Rusty tree squirrels and Champ setting quail. He loved the East Texas pines and planted many of them. He loved his family and friends. After retirement, he was actively involved in real estate and rental properties. Mr. Koon was a past member of Kiwanis. He served in the United States Navy in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre from 1944 – 1946. He was a life member of Lufkin VFW Post 1836. He had been a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1949.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Maggie (Fronie) Meador Koon of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Susan Koon of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Joellen and Dick Stubblefield of Lufkin; grandchildren, Kristy Stubblefield Adams and husband Brian of Lufkin and Amber Koon Miller and husband Bo of Nacogdoches; great-grandchildren, Abby and Ashlyn Adams of Lufkin; sister and brother-in-law, Fern and Charles Evans of Lufkin; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Koon was preceded in death by his brother, E. J. Koon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Banks, Tre’ Banks, Glee Searson, Vince Treadwell, Eric Salas, Wayde Bland and Allen Loggins.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Koon’s memory may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 607 Jane Way, Lufkin, TX 75901; or to the charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
