Larita Porter Cutchshaw

Larita Porter Cutchshaw passed away peacefully on the morning of June 8, 2025 at a local Nursing Facility. She was born May 30, 1932 in the Ora Community of Angelina County, Texas, to the late John Ward Porter and Olivia Bertha McClure Porter.

She graduated from Huntington High School and attended Piney Woods Business College, later relocating to Houston where she had a 40-year career with Texas Employment Commission. It was there in Houston where she made many lifetime friends and memories. Rita retired in 1991 and returned to her hometown of Huntington which she cherished.

She was an excellent cook and enjoyed Antique Shopping, gardening, and watching football especially the Dallas Cowboys. Always the life of the party, her laughter and love were infectious.

She loved the many vacations over the years with family to such places as Eureka Springs, Branson, Hot Springs, Gatlinburg, Colorado, New England, San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. Shortly after retirement, she joined the Hometown Travelers Club where she traveled to such destinations as South Carolina, New York City, Washington DC, and the Canadian Rockies.

She was the most wonderful Mother a child could ever ask for and she will be missed tremendously.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy Jay Cutchshaw; mother-in-law, Willie Mae Cutchshaw; sisters, Vanita Byrd and Nelda Deaton; and brothers-in-law, H.T. Deaton and Robert Byrd.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Danny Cutchshaw; daughter, Deborah Cutchshaw; son-in-law, Len Butler; niece, Deidra Deaton Doherty; nephews, Mike Byrd and Jerry Byrd; and several cousins.

The family would like to thank Hospice in the Pines and the staff at Parkwood in the Pines for the care of our beautiful Mom and for all the love and support.
