

Funeral services for Larry Gene Barfield, 58 of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2014 at Lufkin’s First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Jeremy Yancy officiating, Steve Barfield, brother and Travis Kitchens, good friend, assisting.
Mr. Barfield was born September 26, 1956 in Baytown, Texas, the son of Loretta Guthrie and Hinson M. Barfield. He passed away December 4, 2014 in a local hospice facility.
Larry served his country four years in the United States Navy aboard the USS South Carolina and obtained the rank of OSSN. After an honorable discharge, he returned to his home state. He was well-known throughout the area as a musician. He had played guitar and was affiliated with many different bands playing Rock and Blues since 1982. He also produced many concerts including Piney Woodstock that was held in Nacogdoches in the 1990s. Mr. Barfield worked for twenty years at Champion Paper Mill. He was an active member of Lufkin’s First Assembly of God Church for over ten years. He and his wife, Belle, taught “Sidewalk Sunday School” in the Pinewood Park apartments and this ministry was called “The Rock”.
Survivors include his wife, Belle Jobe of Lufkin; son and daughter-in law, Bradlee & Catherine Barfield of New York; mother Loretta Guthrie of Lufkin; stepmother, Andrea Barfield of Huntington; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Gail Barfield of Lufkin; sisters, Kathy Gipson of Humble and Sheran Lee Wright of Averill Park, New York; brothers-in-law, Kevin Gipson and Bob Wright; four nephews, Wesley and Kyle Gipson, and Justin and Robbie Wright; three stepsons and their wives, Rex & Judy Broome of Sugarland, Ken & Kelly Jobe of Chester and Chris & Becky Jobe of LaPorte; five grandchildren, Randall Broome and his wife Beth, Tyler and Kyle Jobe, and Kasey and Kyrstin Jobe; two great-grandchildren, Ben and Jake Broome; three great-nieces, Monica, Haley, and Alexis Wright; and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, “Hency” Barfield.
Memorial contributions may be offered to Lufkin’s First Assembly of God Church, 2021 South John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, TX 75904; or M.D. Anderson Hospital, 1515 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
