Services for Linda Lucille Johnson Cook, 74 years of age, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2018 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin, Texas. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin, Texas.
Mrs. Cook was born June 1, 1944 in Diboll, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Ollie James Johnson and Shell Bulloch Johnson. She passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018 at her home in Richardson, Texas.
Linda approached each new day with a smile and a positive attitude. She was devoted to her family and friends. She was a 1964 graduate of Diboll High School and Lufkin Beauty College. Linda was proud of her association with the Pilot Club of Diboll. She served as Chairman of the Safety Committee, Patriotic Emblems Committee, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
Linda retired with twenty years of service to our Great State of Texas. She worked for the Department of Criminal Justice, at the Eastham Unit, where she served as Mail Room Supervisor. After retirement, she enjoyed working for hospice, volunteering at their resale shop. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, sharing recipes, all kinds of music, Dallas Cowboys football, and Texas Rangers baseball. Linda was a member of Dorcas Wills Memorial Baptist Church in Trinity, Texas.
Survivors include her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Kim Cook; grandson, Clinton and wife Jennifer; great-granddaughter, Makenna Johnson; brothers, James R. "Babe" Johnson and wife Pat of Houston; Joseph S. "Joe" Johnson and wife Ruth of Lufkin; nieces, nephews; and a host of friends and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Cook; sister, Bobbye Johnson Medina Duckworth; and brother, Von L. Wilson, Junior.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Cook's memory may be made to her favorite cause, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Partners in Hope, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-0050.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
