

Manuel Elby Massingill, Jr., 92, of Lufkin, was born Friday, February 13, 1920 to the late Inez (Gann) and Manuel Elby Massingill, Sr. He passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 in Lufkin, Texas. He had been a resident of Lufkin all his life.
Mr. Massingill retired from Texas Foundries following 32 years of service. He served his country during World War II from 1942 to 1946 in the United States Army. He served in the 84th Infantry Railsplitters Division in three major campaigns in Rhineland, Central Europe and Battle of the Bulge.
Mr. Massingill was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Jolly Seniors Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his children, daughter Myria Sue Massingill of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Inez and Ronnie McMullen of Lufkin; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Leroy Green of Lufkin; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Oma and John Futch and Nolie and Charles Kimble, all of Lufkin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, J. W. and Margie McDonald of Jacksonville, R. L. and Lena McDonald of Rusk and Robert and Joyce McDonald of Lufkin; many special nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Preceding Mr. Massingill in death were his parents; his wife of 55 years, Sarah McDonald Massingill in 2000; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and Barney McDaid and Louise and Leo Molandes, Sr.; brother, L. B. Massingill; brother and sister-in-law, Watson and Maurine Massingill; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Trudie and Joe Frank Drinkard, Lavada Adkins Patrick and Pat Patrick.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Massingill's memory may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, Jolly Seniors Sunday School Class, 2909 E. Lufkin Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75901; the Salvation Army Adult Day Center, 305 Shands Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904; or a charity of your choice.
Graveside services for Mr. Massingill will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012 in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Dr. Walter Futch officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
