Margie Dail Simms

Margie Dail Simms, 70, of Lufkin, was born July 10, 1941 in Center, Texas, the daughter of the late Olga (McSwain) and David Benjamin Whitton. She passed away Thursday, December 1, 2011 in a local long term care facility.

Mrs. Simms was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the best mom and most wonderful grandmother in the world. She enjoyed reading and was constantly learning new things. She also enjoyed country music, and never met a stranger. She was a member of Clawson Assembly of God and loved her church.

Survivors include her son, Bobby Leon Simms of Lufkin; daughter, Sherri Dail McCathern and husband Thomas; grandchildren, Anthony Ryan Simms, Jackie Simms, Justin Allen McCathern, Kathryn Dail Simms, Perry Stephen McCathern, Amber Condon, Haley Simms, Tatum Simms, and Ashley Flowers; great granddaughter, Kaci Grace Cashmere; sister, Becky Flora of Jacksonville, Florida; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simms was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Simms; son, Jackie David Simms; grandson, James Landon Simms; and stepfather, Ellsworth Parker.

Pallbearers will be Stephen McCathern, Kevin Burnett, Keith Burnett, Stacy Cook, Justin McCathern and Kenneth Simms.

Services for Mrs. Simms will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Kevin Poage officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
