Marshall S. Capps

Services for Marshall S. Capps, 94, of Diboll, Texas will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Bobby Whisenant officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Lufkin, Texas. Marshall was born May 12, 1928 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Angie Priscilla (Massingill) and George Starling Capps. He passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023 in a local hospital. Marshall was a loving father, husband, grandfather. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked at the Lufkin Paper Mill for over 40 years. He served on the Diboll School Board for 9 years. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved gardening and planting watermelon seeds in unexpected places. Survivors include his daughter, Angela Havard and husband Danny; son, Terry Capps and wife Pam; daughter, Denise Day; grandchildren and their spouses, Rayburn and Kellie Horton, Wesley and Erin Wallace, Lindsey and Brady Snook, Corey and Rachel Capps, Kacie and Patrick Turner, grandchildren, Kaylee Capps and Josh Day; great grandchildren, Ashlyn and Cooper Horton, Kylee, Chesney, Allie and Aubrey Wallace, Levi Snook, Anastasia and Shane Capps, Makenzie, Whitley and Callie Turner, Paige and Jayden Day. He is also survived by his caretaker and precious friend, Bea Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 49 + years, Jenna Capps; son, Ricky Shane Capps; grandson, Zachary Day; sister, Doyce Childers; brothers Hollis and Iris Capps. Honorary pallbearers will be Rayburn Horton, Wesley Wallace, Brady Snook, Corey Capps, Josh Day, Patrick Turner and Cooper Horton. Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
