Mary Sue Ferguson passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022, in Houston, Texas, after a lengthy illness. Sue was born on May 17, 1932 in Diboll, Texas. She was the youngest of four children born to Samantha Virginia George and Carey George. Doris Squyres, Hulen George, and Willie George, her siblings, preceded her in death. Sue attended school in Diboll and went on to get her teaching degree from Sam Houston State Teacher's College in Huntsville. She married Carl Webber Ferguson, also of Diboll, in April of 1951; they were married for 63 happy years. After graduating, Carl and Sue moved to Beaumont, Texas, where they taught in the Beaumont public schools. Sue loved children and was a wonderful teacher who impacted countless young lives. She taught at Roy Guess Elementary and Martin Elementary in the Beaumont Independent School District. They were members of Westgate Memorial Baptist church for many years. Her husband, Carl ,preceded her in death in 2014.
Family was the highest priority for both Sue and Carl. Most weekends were spent back home in Diboll with extended family, where everyone enjoyed being together and creating lasting memories for all the cousins. When Sue's mother became ill, she left each Friday afternoon after school and drove to Diboll to provide care for her mother without fail. Her grandchildren have many wonderful memories of spending time with Moyna and Pops, as they were called. From rides in the red wagon to arts, crafts, making popcorn balls, and lots of laughs, they made memories to last a lifetime. Her legacy will forever be a blessing.
Mary Sue is survived by her children: Lisa and Lee Herman, Mary Ferguson, and Carl Webber and Jana Ferguson. Grandchildren: David Bradford, Katherine and Michael Trakhtenbroit, Joe and Madeleine Herman, and Mary Helen and David Murphey . Great Grandchildren: Ari and Caleb Trakhtenbroit, and Teddy and Sophie Herman.
Graveside services will be Saturday, December 3rd at Fielder's Cemetery located at 9472 FM Road 326 in Lufkin, Texas. Pallbearers: Carl Webber Ferguson, Lee Herman, Joe Herman, Vance Maddox, Hulen Squyres, Carl Dennis Ferguson, and honorary pallbearer, David Bradford.
