

Mary Gurvis Meredith, 99, of San Augustine was born September 1, 1912, in Eldorado, Texas, the daughter of the late Jimmie (Shaw) Robbins and Ephraim Newton Robbins. She passed away May 29, 2012, at Twin Lakes Care Center in San Augustine.
She grew up in Harlingen, Texas, and worked in her early years as a telephone operator, later becoming a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was known by her friends and family as a kind, loving, and generous soul. She took up painting late in life and loved to paint beautiful landscapes and still lifes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, William David "Bill" Meredith and her son William David "Buddy" Meredith, Jr.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Mary Louette Rice of Houston and her partner, Mike Bratcher; son, Dennis Lee Meredith and daughter-in-law, Joanne Catherine Meredith, both of Purlear, N.C. She is also survived by granddaughter, Wendy Lee Hunter and grandsons, Ryan David Meredith, William David Meredith III, Morris Glen Meredith, John Charles Rice, and Donald Lee Rice. She has three great grandchildren, Meredith Joanne Hunter, Edwin James Hunter, and William David "Davin" Meredith IV.
Services for Mrs. Meredith will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012 in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, with Reverend Rick Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin.
