Mary Estelle Carr Talley

Services for Mary Carr Talley, 92, of Grapevine, formerly of Lufkin, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2015 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Bentley officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells.

Mrs. Talley was born April 8, 1922 in Lockney, Texas, the daughter of the late Lillian Mathis Carr and William R. Carr. She passed away January 11, 2015 in Grapevine, Texas.

After high school, Mrs. Talley worked in the ship yard in Beaumont. She married Hershel Talley in June, 1951. They lived in the Houston area for a time and then moved to Lufkin in 1973. She was a telephone operator for Lufkin Telephone and PBX operator for Sears and Foleys in Houston. She loved to play Bingo and quilt. She loved country music, dancing, and watching red birds. She was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Debbie Rowe of Grapevine, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Gary Hunter of Rome, Italy; daughter, Sharon Tarver of Conroe, Texas; step-daughter, Sylvia Cariker of Galveston, Texas; grandchildren, Donna and Steve Brennan, Angela and Jack Metcalf, Craig and Susan Rowe, Debra Dian and Chris Thomasson, Lisa and Jason Patton, Laura and Pedro Salomon, Dustin Tarver, Pam and Eric Cravey, Kimberly Talley and Bobby Talley, Jr.; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Dean Ferguson and Norma Dell Gurganus; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Talley was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Talley; step-son, Bobby Gene Talley, Sr.; grandson, Benjamin Womack, III; sister, Florence Calhoun; and brothers, William Mural Carr and Wayne Robert Carr.

Pallbearers will be Craig Rowe, grandson Dustin Tarver, grandson Steve Brennan, Jack Metcalf, Chris Thomasson and Camron Thomasson.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
