Survivors include his wife, Heidi McCarty of Valley View; parents, Robert and Dorothy Jo (Treadaway) McCarty of Rosenburg; aunt, Ernestine Shows of La Porte; brother-in-law, Steve Stewart of Sugar Land; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Violet and Ernest McCarty and Euretha (Perry) and Elmer Treadaway; brother, Robert Mark McCarty; and sister, Jodie McCarty Stewart.
Matt was a graduate of La Porte High School where he excelled in sports. He attended Texas A&M University and played football his freshman year. Matt graduated from Texas State Technical Institute in Waco as an honor student. Both Matt and Heidi worked for a technical specialty company for a number of years as heads of their departments.
Matt was confirmed into the faith on August 29, 1971 at La Porte United Methodist Church, where he spent his young life as a faithful member in regular attendance with his parents, brother and sister. Matt’s hobbies were hunting, fishing, boating, and animals. He excelled at snow skiing and specialized in raising and breeding animals on their BARRED M Ranch in Valley View. Matt never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was the light and joy of all his family and friends and will forever be missed.
Memorial services for Matt will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Reverend John Black officiating.
