

Services for Maurice Hill, 88, of Lufkin, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 5, 2014 in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, with Bro. Michael Henson officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Hill was born April 9, 1925 in New Willard, Texas, the son of the late Ella Barbara (Coats) and Robert Lee Hill. He passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 in a local hospital.
Mr. Hill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He especially enjoyed spending time with the grandkids and great-grandkids. He was retired from Southern Pacific Railroad as a switchman. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, and fishing. Mr. Hill was a member and Deacon of Fuller Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Hill served his country with the United States 8th Air Force in World War II as a ball turret gunner in the 600th Bomb Squadron and 398 Bomb Group.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bobby D. and Judy Hill of Lufkin; sons, Kenneth Dolen Hill of Moffett and Jerry R. Hill of Sweeney; twin sister, Maurine Inman; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild (with another one on the way); and a number of other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mildred Cummings Hill on April 28, 2010; son, Stevie Hill; daughter, Cathay Hill; son, David Hill.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Dolen Hill, Jr., Kevin Johnson, Jason Kelly, Scott Hill, Nathan Hill and Davy Hill.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
